John 2:6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.

During the first half of yesterday’s devotion, we learned that this was Jesus’s first miracle. He let Mary know she needed to recognize Him as Lord then. Jesus had officially started His ministry. If the wine ran out, the family and the groom would be dishonored in a culture of honor and shame.
Six stone waterpots used for the ritual of purification held about 150 gallons of water. They used this water to cleanse feet and hands. This was not the cleanest way to make wine. That’s why we call this a miracle. Jesus can take anything dirty and make it clean!
John 2:7-8 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” They filled them to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.
The disciples hesitated not at all. Jesus told them to fill the pots, and they filled them to the brim. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I hesitate. I want to do what Jesus calls me to do, but doubt creeps into my mind. But the disciples with Jesus didn’t. James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. How many times has doubt killed a miracle Jesus wanted to perform in your life?
The disciples followed Jesus’ commands and took the water turned into wine to the master of the ceremony. The proverbial rubber was about to meet the road. Either Jesus was the Messiah, or the jig was up. That’s how faith in Jesus works. Either you believe He is the Messiah or you don’t. There is no middle ground.
John 2:9-10 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
Here you have it. The first miracle was complete. The water became wine, and the family was spared from shame. But notice how Jesus did this miracle. He didn’t just make wine; He made the best wine this crowd had ever tasted. Jesus goes above and beyond to help His people. Are you one of His? Have you given your life to Him? Tomorrow is not promised to any man! The time is now!
