John 1:37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

The response should be…
In the verse before this, John the Baptist proclaimed, “Behold the Lamb of God!” The messiah was proclaimed! The lamb was sacrificed in the Old Testament for a peace offering. Now the Prince of Peace was on the scene. What was Jon’s disciples’ response? They started following the Messiah. This was not a rejection of John. They realized One greater than John was before their eyes.
John 1:38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”
This question Jesus asked the two is relevant for us. What are we seeking? Riches, fame, or something else this world offers? Jesus is bold with the questions He asks. Because He knows the heart of man, He knows what the souls of men need! He cuts straight to the point. His sacrificial gift is what we need. Then they ask Him, “Where are you staying?” Their hearts were seeking what they knew only Jesus could offer.
John 1:39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
Jesus responds with a welcoming word, “Come and see.” No hesitation. Jesus came to save us from our sins. He wanted these two to learn from Him. He wants us to be the same. He wants to disciple us today! This is how much greater Jesus is than anything else the world can offer. He is a personal Savior; He wants a relationship with you and me! So again, what do you seek? A loving and gracious God came to save you from your sin. Will you choose Him?
