John 1:6-7 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.

The Witness
John was the cousin to Jesus. In other Gospels, we read that when Mary came to visit Elizabeth, John jumped for joy in the womb when he came close to Jesus. This reminds me of Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” John the Baptist was ordained to be the forerunner of Jesus. He was the sign that pointed to the Savior. Through John, people were witnessed to and believed in his message of the coming Messiah.
John 1:8-9 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
Jewish leaders thought of John as the Messiah; he had a huge following. But John told people over and over that he was not the Light. The Light was in the world, and He would give the opportunity for men to have light in their lives to run the darkness away. Most people would and still do choose to live in the darkness, but every person has a choice.
John 10-11 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
I hear people talk about their rights. Their right to healthcare, their right to express themselves and numerous other rights. But have you ever stopped to think of the rights Jesus had? He created everything you see, stand on and even the air you breathe. He created for you and me. That through this life we may have a relationship with Him as our Creator. But He came into the world that He created. and the world rejected Him.
John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Always know that even through the darkest days of evil, Jesus always has His remnant. There are those of us out here that accept Him as Lord and Savior. We who have been born twice. Once through blood then through accepting Jesus and through the Holy Spirit. There are only two real choices of eternal consequence in this life. Choose the Light or choose the darkness. Which will you choose?
