Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one,
Because they have a good reward for their labor.

For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
For he has no one to help him up.

Two are better

“Just the two of us, we can make if we try, just the two of us you and I.” This was a song written by Bill Withers and Grover Washington. It expresses the effort of a man and woman trying to make it together in life. We were not made to walk through life alone. We were made to be relational. God gave us man and woman to then leave their parents and join as one.

It is also a very good thing when we have a friend to walk along side of us. When we need a helping hand and you have a true friend that hand will be extended from that friend. Think of how rare it is to learn of someone who has lived for years by themselves. Often these people have some sort of mental issue if they even are alone. Having someone is a blessing, and we should work to enhance our friendships and marriages.

Three is unbreakable

Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

I remember an experiment that a grade schoolteacher taught. He brought a bunch of small vines into class and used this verse to tell us kids we could not do something. Breaking one vine was easy, two was difficult, but three was impossible. When we have two good friends, we can withstand life so much better. Relationships are the building blocks of our life.

This is a way we can explain our relationship with God. There are three distinct persons in the Godhead. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I can’t give an example of this relationship because it takes our faith to believe in them. But now think of the number four. The Triune God and us. This is an unshakeable force. Are you firmly in the hands of the God of our salvation?
