Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven

For Every Season

These verses in chapter 3 are among the most beautiful ever written by man. “To everything there is a season” expresses the depth, breadth, and width of our lives. Think back on your life and recount some of the different seasons you have been through. The hurtful seasons, the joyful seasons, and the bland seasons. Have you ever asked yourself why? Do you see them as just some cosmic tomfoolery?

There is a time for every purpose under heaven. This is not just a statement made by a man; it is knowledge God gave to man. He did this to let you and me understand that He has a purpose for our lives. No hurt, no tear shed, no laughter, and no other emotion we experience is not for our benefit. Joseph, Moses, and other men God used had the desert experience. God taught them lessons so they could fulfill His will on this earth.

True living

Ecclesiastes 3:2-3 A time to be born, And a time to die;
A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill,
And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up;

There are great verses left that we will dig further into later, but look at the ones above. We have a time to be born; God had a plan for us down to the time of our birth; we are no accident. We have a time to die. When we are in His will, nothing can harm us to the point of death until our purpose is fulfilled. A time to plant seed and a time to harvest. Jesus calls us to plant spiritual seed and to take part in spiritual harvest.

We are to take part in forgiveness when it is time to heal. Then we are to break down. We are to stand against sin and evil. We are to cut it off at the knees. Then we are to build up the ones who are new to Christianity. There is purpose for our lives. This purpose has nothing to do with living in this world. We are strangers to this planet. Our eternal lives are in heaven. Remember this the next time you wake up asking, “Why?”
