Ecclesiastes 2:17 Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

The Grift

Life under the sun seems good to us at times. The skies are blue, a cool breeze blows on our faces, and things are calm. But those are mere moments out of an entire lifetime. The rest of the time we spend working, running, worrying, and doing an immense number of other unsuitable tasks. Moments are not the reality in this world. We have been fooled into thinking that this world is reality.

Solomon came to the understanding that one day we will all come to. We have been grifted by Satan! He has taken from us the things that are supposed to matter most. He does this without even lifting a finger. We are sucked into a lifestyle that is void of God. Without God, nothing really lasts for eternity except our souls. But it will be separated from the only place where true joy exists because we have rejected our Creator and Savior! All is vanity without Jesus!

But our Prodigy

Ecclesiastes 2:18-19 Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me. And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will rule over all my labor in which I toiled and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

I know that we all love our children and our extended families. We put a lot of work into people to allow them to realize what they need to do to have a good life. But does this guarantee that they will lead a good life? No. Children are like arrows we nock on the string and shoot. Once we release the string, we don’t know where they will land. After a certain age, they make their own decisions. So, we labor in vain to provide them with the labor of our hands, only for them to waste it all!

Truly, without teaching them about the gospel of Jesus Christ and who He is, our work is vanity. This life is fleeting, and then we spend the rest of eternity in true reality. There are two. One in heaven with Jesus after accepting His grace. Or in hell, separated from Him because we reject Him. Even not deciding for Him, being indifferent, is a decision. Do not be a victim of the grifter. Do not be indifferent. Choose Jesus.
