Ecclesiastes 1:5 The sun also rises, and the sun goes down,
And hastens to the place where it arose.

Cyclical
Solomon writes about something we all experience throughout our lives. Monotony. Without a true purpose in life, it becomes like the movie “Groundhog Day.” It seems as if we get up, get dressed, and face the same issues day after day. Look at what Solomon uses to describe this in these verses. The sun comes up and sets every day. Then it repeats.
Let us look at the rich. They have what they want. They fulfill their every want and desire. They live in comfort. Day after day. But just like Solomon, the author of this book, they become dissatisfied with life. Why? Because we were created with a specific purpose. We can’t be fully satisfied without pursuing this. What is it? A relationship with God. We were created with a God-sized hole in our hearts, and only He can fill it. Nothing else will complete us.
Nothing is new
Ecclesiastes 1:10 Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new”?
It has already been before us in ancient times.
Again, the only thing on this earth that is new is you and me. We are original creations, but we are born into sin. Money, power, and possessions have been pushed on us by the ruler of this world (Satan) since the beginning. They will not make us joyful. Maybe they will give us temporary emotional feelings like happiness but not joy. What is new under the sun?
Ecclesiastes 1:11 There is no remembrance of former things,
Nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come
By those who will come after.
There are millions of people who seek fame across the globe. Maybe it is because they do not feel seen by the world. Even after grasping fame, they are shortly forgotten. Look at the suicide and drug use rate by the famous! But our Father in Heaven sees us. He has given everything to have a relationship with us. Then why do people seek other things besides Him? Because they do not know Him! There is a lack of understanding in America today. A supposed Christian nation!
Be New
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Want to be a true original? Become a new creation in Christ! The old man and the old stuff will fade, but you will live in eternity with Him. How? By accepting His gift of salvation. He came to take our punishment. He died on that cruel cross! He rose from the grave and ascended to the Father. All we need to do is accept Him as Lord. Aren’t you tired of living for possessions that make you unhappy? Come to Him today!
