Revelation 12:1 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars.

The first of seven great signs

The seven trumpet judgements are over. Now we are entering seven great signs. There is a bunch of imagery in these also. Some people may disagree with the interpretations that I have studied and agree with. That is okay. The bottom line is I write to spread Jesus. We may not agree on everything. We are humans, not gods. The main point in these is to draw more people to Jesus.

A woman clothed with sun, with the moon under her feet and a garland of twelve stars. This represents the nation of Israel. Read Genesis 37:9-11. It is Joseph’s dream and is the same as what is explained here. The twelve stars are the twelve tribes of Israel and the moon Joseph’s mother Racheal.

What happens?

Revelation 12:2 Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. Israel gives birth to a child known as Jesus. So, what we are seeing here is a story of the history of Jesus. Revelation 12:3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. This is Satan; he is referred to a dragon multiple times in scriptures. The heads and the diadems are kingdoms he has influence over. It also represents his great power here on earth.

Revelation 12:4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. We know the history-Satan rebelled and one-third of the angels in heaven were with him. They were thrown out of heaven. The goal for Satan after Genesis chapter 3 is to cut off the lineage of Jesus. He wanted to destroy any way he could the coming Messiah.

What next?

Revelation 12:5-6 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

Jesus is born and grew. His ministry started around thirty years of age. He taught for roughly three years and matured His disciples. He then went to the cross, the grave and then was resurrected. Then He ascended to the Father. He took the punishment for our sin. His mission of love and redemption was fulfilled.

Now fast forward to the tribulation. The women, which is the nation of Israel, has to flee from the attacks of the anti-Christ to a place God has prepared for them. They stay in this place for three and one-half years. This is a lot, I know, but knowing brings blessing. Ultimately, the purpose is to know Jesus as Savior. If not, tribulation awaits.
