First things first, we have reached another pause in this apocalyptic action God is undertaking. He is again showing mercy giving people who are left on earth the chance to repent. Who is this angel? The scholars are split on this. Some say it is Jesus because of the imagery of the feet like pillars of fire and face like the sun. Others are not convinced of this and say it is the angel, Michael.
Either way the angel comes down from heaven. Seemingly from the presence of the throne of God with his appearance. He has a little book in his hand, and he set one foot on land and one on the waters. This shows the ownership of it all by God. He cries out with a loud voice like a lion and seven thunders utter their voices. Seven is the number of completion. The thunder shows God’s power. Then, the angel says there will be no more delays after this.

The things that are written in this little book were forbidden to be written about. The angel expressly told John not to. This is one of the mysteries of this book which will not be revealed so people would not try and guess the time of this great tribulation. However, this has not stopped some people from trying to guess anyways.
John was told to eat the book, and it would be bittersweet to him. It would first taste sweet, but then it would turn bitter in his stomach. Whatever was in this book sounds much like the gospel of Jesus. When you teach or preach His word, some subjects are just like this. It is sweet because it is God’s word. But it is also bitter because of the message that has to be taught. This is exactly what John was told to go forth and prophesize to many people and nations.
