Revelation 6:5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand.
The third seal opened
The third seal is opened, and more bad news is arriving. The third rider, on the third horse, this time the color of the horse is black. The rider is holding a pair of scales in his hand. More death is to come. This time it is related to commerce. Black is associated with business. Think of someone wearing a business suit. Scales were a common sign of commerce in the times of the disciple John.
The white horse represents the anti-christ coming to make war. The red horse with its rider represents peace being broken, and now we see the black horse coming to take down commerce. The world system is being turned upside down. Lives are being lost because of the hate Satan has for God. This is not about humans for him. Satan is doing anything he can to try and hurt God.
Explain the black horse and rider more…
Revelation 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” A Denarius represents a day’s wage for the common man. A quart of wheat or three quarts of barley is barely enough for a grown man to be satiated. This means the black horse is bringing worldwide famine. But notice the oil and the wine is not touched.
In the midst of the famine there will be those who are rich, and they will still live their lives like they always have. The disparity between the poor and the rich will never be greater. Imagine a person working all day and going home to their family and not having enough for everyone. What terrible choices will have to be made. Satan will be laughing, and the lost will be dying. This is just a terrible, terrible situation.
What can be done?
Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” We have an opportunity at this time to come to a saving relationship with Christ. We can be refreshed in the presence of the Lord. Know that today is the day! No one knows when this time of the great tribulation will come. Take your opportunity now!
