Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
What is this scroll all about?
We as humans are all under the curse of sin. We were the rightful rulers of the earth God created, but we gave this right over to Satan when we sinned. The scroll is sealed with seven seals. Seven is a number in the Bible that represents completeness. So, the scroll is to be opened when the time of grace is complete. The time of judgement is at hand. The opening of the scroll is the beginning of the types of judgements coming.
Who is able to open the scroll?
Revelation 5:2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” Because of sin there is no one worthy on earth to open the scroll. John becomes emotional and weeps because no one is worthy. Revelation 5:5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
The Root of David, also the ancestor of David, is worthy! Jesus is worthy because He came to set us free from the grip of sin. He was born from a virgin birth; He lived a sinless perfect life; He went to the cross and gave His life; then went to the grave and was resurrected and is the One worthy to open this scroll. Worthy is He! Praise His name!
What is on the scroll?
Reading on in the next chapter, the scroll is opened by the Holy One. This is the beginning of the Great Tribulation. The little baby Jesus that the world pictures is no longer! Now it is the time of the Lion of the tribe of Judah. I pray that by this time everyone reading this devotional has been saved through the blood of Jesus. Because no time in history or in the future will ever be worse for the lost sinner.
God’s plan was always for Jesus to save us from sin that we could not save ourselves from. It is a free gift from His sacrifice. I pray that God would open your eyes if you do not have a relationship with His Son. Come to Him today; there is no other way but Jesus!
