Rev. 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John
What about end times?
The book of Revelation is a prophecy given to John, the disciple Jesus loved, to explain the future rapture of the church and then the terrible seven years after. He warns everyone there is going to be a day that will come when judgement stands at the door. He starts by giving revealing to the seven churches, then with great detail explains what will happen to people who are on the earth who do not believe in Jesus.
The seven churches are churches of that age but also is representative of the churches of modern day. He gives good words to the churches who are being vigilant and warnings to the churches that have fallen into worldliness and sinful behavior. He warns against such behavior and what the consequences are for those who have decided against taking God’s word as truth.
Why read this book? It scares me.
Rev.1:3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. We are told by this verse that we are blessed by hearing the words of this book. Not just reading the words but keeping the Word which are written in it. The Word is from God; the Word is God. Of course, Jesus is the Word. So, the things He has written in Revelation and the entire gospel blesses us.
But particularly we are told this book of Revelation blesses us. This book gives us insight to the coming of Jesus as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. This is not the little baby Jesus we see in the manger scenes as we celebrate Christmas. There is a penalty for sin, and this is a blow-by-blow description of what is coming when God decides it is time.
How do I avoid these judgements?
Romans 3:23-26 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
The only way to avoid judgement for our sin is to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. There is no other way. Not good works, not through Buddha nor Allah, or any other false god. So, the decision is yours to make.
