Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

I have recently heard it said that tomorrow is an illusion; take responsibility for the time you have today. That is a lot to think about for someone who likes to plan for things of the future. But I do not think this verse is telling us not to plan for tomorrow. No, I think it is saying do not worry about the future events that may happen. We often time take up too much of today thinking about tomorrow. We let life pass us by when our heads are in the clouds of future events.

Tomorrow’s problems are not promised to us. We never know exactly when our last breath will be. So, what are the most important things in your life today? Did you look at your wife and tell her you love her? Did you take time with your children and hug them? Did you get the opportunity to play with your grandchildren? These are some of the important things we should be doing in life. Work, problems, and concerns about money are problems of an affluent society.

Then, there is the most important issue of all. Who do you say that Jesus is, and what have you done with Him? This life is temporary. There is an eternity left for our souls to live. Where do you want to be when you live it out? There is a place with weeping and gnashing of teeth. It is an eternal separation from our loving God. Then, there is heaven where our loving God’s presence stays. Which one sounds best to you? What step have you taken to secure this future? This is the most important question we could ever answer.
