Psalm 22:8 “He trusted in the Lord. Let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!”

David is writing a psalm here that pre-dated Christ almost 1000 years. When you read the entirety of this scripture and compare it to the words surrounding Christ’s death, burial and resurrection you soon realize David was writing words and events in prophecy. The Bible often has double interpretations. One for the moment and one for future event. David was referencing himself but also forecasting the words of Christ. This gives us insight into the fact David was led by the Holy Spirit.

This verse is referring to Matthew 27 and Luke 23. The scribes and pharisees said these statements. Some thought that He was calling down Elijah and wanted to see. Others who knew He raised people from the dead and healed the blind, watched to see if the Messiah they wanted would come off the cross and run the Romans out of Irael. They did not want a true savior or God; they just wanted the Romans out of their country.

This is the problem with us as humans. So many times, it is not God’s will we truly want but the selfish desires of our hearts. We want to put God in a box then let Him out when we need or want something. The problem with this is that in this role we are putting ourselves in the spot of God. We become the idols in our life. God has proclaimed His feelings on idols. He will not tolerate them. Therefore, He will not tolerate us making ourselves idols. The cure to this is accepting the grace of Jesus. Bringing Christ to sit on the thrown of our hearts.
