Jonah 2:3 For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods surrounded me; all Your billows and Your waves passed over me.

Like Jonah we can try and run and hide from God. But isn’t it foolish to think we can hide from the Creator as His creation on the earth He created. God has experienced this from many people over the centuries. It started with Adam and Eve. They ran from Him after they tasted the fruit. But God has a plan and this plan does not necessarily take into consideration our physical or emotional comfort. What He does take into consideration is the outcome of the plight we find ourselves and us being better when we come out of it.

Jonah was cast into the deep of the sea and was surrounded by more water than he could drink. He was cold and scared, then He was swallowed by a great fish. He stayed in the belly of the fish for three days. He decided this was a good time to pray and repent. Have you found yourself in a situation created by your defiance of God’s will? It could be a number of different difficult plights. God’s intention is to make a heart change in you. Will you be like Jonah and pray and repent? Do you think it will take something as grand as a great fish swallowing you? Whatever it takes, God wants your heart.

Now let’s think about Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. What if while He was praying, He stopped, then looked to the Father and changed His mind? What would have become of us? The great thing is He did not do this. He suffered more than we could ever imagine. He did this to save your soul and my soul from an eternal damnation. Ponder on this today as you consider the thing in which He has asked you to do.
