Matthew 7:24-25 Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
Hearing works by converting sound waves in the air into electrical signals the brain interprets. The most interesting part in this to me is that little hair’s cells convert the sound waves into electrical signals the brain interprets. But if you pay attention to most people, they are balding in their ears. Maybe this made you chuckle. But the sad fact is that there is so much opportunity that people have to listen and learn but refuse. This is a characteristic of someone who has a problem with pride.
Jesus is giving this parable to give people the understanding of how important a person’s foundation is to life. Life was not meant for our comfort or to collect as many toys as possible. No, life was truly meant to come to know God through His Son Jesus. To learn and grow in Him so we can draw closer in our relationship to Him. But we let the things and cares of this world interfere with the meaning of life. In other words, we pour a foundation of clay and when the tough parts of life hit, we fall over.
There is a foundation we can lay that will withstand the strongest storms of life. The Chief Cornerstone in this foundation is Jesus. Everything in our life and then eternity is centered and depends on His strength. We only have to hear His gospel and realize this as the truth. Then we come to Him and put our faith in the strength of His foundation. Do you want to live in a house of cards? Or do you want to live in a house built on the Rock? Choose wisely.
