Matthew 9:20 And, suddenly a woman who has a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.
Jesus was walking to the home of a ruler to heal his daughter. He actually was raising her from the dead but there was a significant event that happened on the way there. A woman with an issue of blood made her way through the crowd and touched the hem of His garment. First, this was against the law because of her issue of blood. Secondly, she was touching a Rabbi. This was deserving of a stoning. But she was healed of her issue and Jesus called her, “Daughter.” This is an odd place for something like this to appear. Why was it so important for this to be added at this point?
At the edges of the garment Jesus was wearing was four sets of three beads. This identified a Jewish man as a Jew. It was called in the Greek a Kanap. This is also a word at its root can mean wings. Why is this so important? Because of Malachi 4:2, “But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings…” These were the last verses that were spoken to the Jewish people by God for four hundred years. Not many in the crowd the day the woman was healed understood the significance.
Just like the people in the crowd, there are many who do not understand the significance of who Jesus Christ really is. But there are the few that understand like the woman with the issue of blood. She believed with all of her heart Jesus was Lord. She knew He had healing in His wings. So, she would do anything to be healed physically. But it was her faith in the Messiah that got her called, “Daughter.” This was an amazing story of faith that was shown to me. I needed to share it with you. The time for a choice is now. Will you be called a child of God after your decision?
