Psalm 49:6-9 Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches, None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him-For the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease forever-That he should continue to live eternally, and not see the Pit.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. This is a quote from 1 Timothy. Here in the psalm it gives a warning about people who trust and boast in their money. Think of it like this, what is money to God? I mean He holds everything we know of in the palm of His hand. So do we think we can give money to the church and make that cover the sin we commit? If someone thinks this way then they are actually saying they think the sacrifice Christ made is worthless.

But the fact is no amount of money or amount of good deeds can make a dent in the price of the cost of our sin. We witness people in this world who have means live with the thought there is another system of law for them. They are treated differently by other people because of their wealth and power. But God is no respecter of persons. He loves those who follow His commands. His command that counts most is that we should come to the cross and give our hearts to Him. This is what matters most to God, our hearts. This is because our heart is the gateway to our souls.

So what about you? Are you going to trust in the wealth of the world? Do you think you are good enough and have done good enough works to make it to heaven without Christ? Do you try and bribe God with your money? This is foolishness. God has made it so easy for us to be saved from the punishment of our sin. Why? Because He knows the true value of the soul our fleshly tents cover. The real us. What are you going to trust in? Money or Jesus?
