John 3:19 “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.”
We do not like to perceive darkness in ourselves. We would like to think that our motives are always righteous. We look at our children when they are babies and we think they are the best thing ever gifted to the world. Give it time and we can see through their selfish actions that they are not perfect. In fact, we are all born into sin. This is our curse. That we love the darkness more than we love the light. That is until we truly come into contact with the light. Then we have a choice.
The sad fact is that most people will choose the darkness. This is a statement that I hesitate to make but it is backed up by hundreds of years of evidence. Humans do truly love the evil deeds they commit. We love to make statements such as , “The devil made me do it.” The accuser does play his part but James makes it clear in his book. Sin starts in our minds, then we meditate on the sin. Before we know it we have manifested it in our lives. Even as a forgiven saint we sometimes fall in our sin.
The great news in all this is that Jesus shines His light. If we allow it and stand before Him the darkness will flee. His forgiveness and mercy is truly amazing. The pull of sin and darkness is truly strong when we live in our flesh. We can be set free. We can live a righteous life in God’s eyes. But we have to make our decision. There is no fence straddling. We either walk in His grace or in the darkness. Choose wisely.
