Jeremiah 23:5-6 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a Branch of Righteousness. A king shall reign and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
We often hear that since the New Covenant made by Jesus we do not need to read the Old Testament. But the truth is the whole Bible is about Jesus. Conservatively, Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament. The story of Jesus starts from the beginning of the earth unto the end of days. Jeremiah tells us a Branch of Righteousness will be raised from the house of David. Matthew does a wonderful job showing the lineage of Jesus.
When we break this all down, we learn that there is more written about Jesus then most any other historical figure. I hear people say, “How can I trust that the Bible is real, or the Jesus stuff can not be proved.” Of course if this were true then how can we trust the writings about any historical figure. Charles Darwin said that he found his theory of evolution, “absurd.” But it is taught in school today. So is the question really, “Is Jesus a real figure in history?” Or is the question, “Why should I surrender my self-indulgences of the flesh to Him?”
And this is the crux of the situation. Do we want to follow the One who created us? Jesus is the fulcrum on which all history and future events pivot on. We can choose not to believe in Him. We can deny. But Jesus is the Truth. He called Himself a stumbling block. How long can we walk around stumbling? Is that not the definition of insanity?
