Jeremiah 18:3-4 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.
The potter’s wheel is a rotating platform used to shape and form clay into bowls, vases and pots. It allows for precise movement for control. We live on a rotating object called the earth, and the Lord uses it to help shape us into vessels for His purposes. We did not just spontaneously appear or form from millions of years of evolution. We were created in the image of God by the ultimate artistic craftsman. We have a certain purpose we were created for by Him.
Like the potter has control over the clay and sees its flaws, we too have flaws and God will take the steps to help recreate His project. We are marred by sin. So God has to take us and reshape us. But if we, being the clay, ultimately are not worthy of what He chooses to create, then the clay is thrown out. We as God’s creation do have a say if we will be shaped into something good. If we refuse to be formed into what God wants, we are then cast out from His sight.
Sin is the flaw that causes our cracks. God is the potter and has made a way possible to correct our sin. His name is Jesus Christ. God will not force this repair upon us; no, we have to choose the cure. If we want a relationship, we have to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. A cracked pot is useless for carrying water. Like this example, we were made to carry God’s Holy Spirit. The only way to do this is through forgiveness. Forgiveness is freely given, but we have to ask. Will you ask Him today?
