Ecclesiastes 10:5-6 There is an evil I have seen under the sun, as an error proceeding from the ruler. Folly is set in great dignity, while the rich sit in a lowly place.

Solomon is looking back on his life and is speaking through the eyes of the sin he has committed. He was blessed by God with great riches and wisdom greater than any man. He sees the evil under the sun which has been. An error the ruler has made is a reference to him. He has been convicted of the folly he has committed and knows he has done wrong in the sight of God. He now realizes the lowly place in which he has sat.

This is sad for us to read about. Solomon had all the things many of us dream about. Wisdom, power and riches but it corrupted him. He decided one day to live the life of folly and see where it led him. He is writing about that in these verses and seems lost and ashamed. He let the money, wealth and power control him. This is supposed to work the opposite. The money, wealth and power we are to control for the good of God and His people.

We are all human and born into sin. No matter how blessed with worldly possessions, we all struggle with sin. This is common place. What do we do then? We have to take to the Lord in prayer. We have to ask forgiveness of our sin and crucify our flesh daily. This is not an easy task. In fact, it can be down right brutal. But when you look back on your life do you want to be full of regret like Solomon?
