2 Kings 6:5 But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed.

We as humans try to put God into our little box and expect Him to move the way we think He should. This is such tiny thought on our behalf. Why would this story about the lost ax head be in the Bible? Why is it important to us? When we look at this from a different perspective, it shows the caring and power of God working through His man. This should remind us of how we can be used and just how powerful God is.

First, we think that an ax head in our time is not really expensive. But in this time when someone had iron it meant they had financial means. The man who lost the equipment had borrowed it. Could he afford to replace it? Maybe, but not likely. God is concerned with His people and their affairs. Secondly, think of the law of gravity that was altered so the man could find this iron. Gravity is finely tuned for life of intelligent beings. If this is even fractionally altered, then life would be severely changed. But God allowed this in a minute way so He could help his servant. Just put these two things together and we get a picture of how God thinks and relates to us.

There is no small miracle in the Bible. There are no small miracles in our lives. God created everything for us. The number of galaxies and planets is staggering. But God holds all this in His hands. What is so miraculous is these same hands reach out to us out of love. These thoughts should be life altering to us. Do you know God of relationship? He is waiting for you.
