2 Kings 4:5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her, and she poured it out.

The family was suffering. The husband was dead and the woman was left to fend for her family. This is a time were a woman had no hope to do this unless there was a benefactor. She had been overcome with grief and knew unless there was a miracle that she and her sons were doomed. She was down to one jar of oil. What would she do? Who would come to her aid? Cue the hero, the one who has love and compassion greater than we could ever imagine. He would use a great prophet to fulfill His will.

Elijah told the woman to go and acquire as many jars as possible and pour the small amount of oil in the jar into them. She did and wonderfully the oil did not run out until there was no vessels. What can we learn from this lesson? One, it is not over until God allows it to be over. His will rules over any circumstance. Two, we need to call out to God in the very best but also the very worst of times. He wants us to call out to Him for help. He is our creator and our Father. Three, When God blesses us it is only us who limits that blessing. If there were more jobs available then they to would have been filled. Our blessings are as big as our desire.

This story is just one picture of how God wants us to approach Him. This woman waited until the last minute. We too act in this manner. Instead of calling out to God in the beginning of our need, we wait till the last minute. We want to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, but this is only possible if God has given us boots. Do not wait until you reach this level of suffering. We have a loving God. He is waiting to shower us with His love. It all depends on how we view Him. If we are full of pride and want to be our own God, we wait. If we are humble and seek His mercy, we will find grace.
