Matthew 5:17-18 “Do not think I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law til all is fulfilled.”

People have a thought that the Old Testament is by some means obsolete or was destroyed by Jesus creating the New Covenant. But the truth is Jesus is in the Bible from the first page until the last page. Jesus did not destroy the Law; He fulfilled the Law. He did not disenfranchise the Prophets; no, His coming fulfilled what was prophesied. The Bible is about Him, teaches about Him and was meant for us to read and know Him.

The Law was created to make us realize that we can not save ourselves. We need a savior to keep us from the punishment that we deserve for our sin. The Old Testament picture of sacrificing animals was a temporary act. As soon as the animal was sacrificed, the next sinful thought or word made it obsolete. We need something that is permanent. That is where Jesus comes into the picture. He is the sinless, perfect Son Of God. His sacrificial act of dying on the cross and being resurrected is permanent.

If we think that we can save ourselves. then that is the most foolish thought we can have. The truth is Jesus is the Truth. He was with the Father when it says in Genesis “let us make man in our image.” In Genesis 3 it is prophesied, “He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” This is a reference to Jesus defeating Satan. So what will you do with this knowledge? Will you seek Christ? Or will you turn and live life out without Him? Eternal destination is at stake. Think hard.
