Galatians 6:1-2 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Life is a beautiful gift given to us by a loving God. But because of the curse of sin, life can be terribly hard. There are multitudes of ways life can knock us down. The thing that counts is if we get back up from being knocked down. One way to help us get up is the people we have around us. As Christians we are called to help our fellow Christians who may be overtaken by a trespass. This may be sin, a physical disability or struggling with the death of a loved one. Whatever it may be, having friends and being a friend makes all the difference.
Consider Jesus and His example. He came and walked among us in the flesh as a human but being fully God. He did not run from sin or fallen people. In fact, he confronted and loved people in these moments. Remember the people with leprosy He healed. He touched them and healed them not being afraid. Remember Lazarus; Jesus cried over his death before bringing him back to life. Jesus forgives sinners; remember Matthew the tax collector. He was outcast from his own people.
How do we support others and bring them back? Talk to them like people. Treat them like they are supposed to be treated, as a child of God. Pray for them. Show them in some way that you care. Invite them to the most important meeting at church, small group classes. This is where we come together and study the word of God. We get to know one another and worship and learn. I pray that you have someone or a small group to worship with. I hope if you do not you will seek these people out at your local church.
