1 Corinthians 2:6-8 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages of our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew. For if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.
The mystery of the wisdom of God. This is a conceptually hard thought for man to grasp. Why would a loving God wrap His wisdom in a mystery? Why would He make it hard for man to find? This is a question of self-determination. We are not forced to serve the true God. We have a choice in this matter. But not choosing Him is where the mystery portion of the statement comes in. In order to know the wisdom of God, you first need the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the mystery. Not choosing God excludes you from the Holy Spirit.
That leaves man with the wisdom of the accumulation of experience of other men. This may seem like wisdom but look where this has led mankind. Wars, greed, pride and other various and sundry actions. This wisdom denies God and therefore denies man who was made in the image of God. When this infiltrates man’s thoughts, then other men seem less than and concepts like race superiority and usury of other men come to fruition. This is what God calls sin. The sad part is we choose this sin over God.
The good news is the choice itself. Jesus came to this world in the flesh. He walked as a man without sin. He was nailed to a cross and gave His life for us. He took the punishment for our sin. But He did not stay in the grave. He was resurrected and now sits at the right hand of the Father. If we choose Him, then we too will be with the Father in heaven when our time to die comes. Which side of the choice will you choose?
