Genesis 4:25-26 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” And as for Seth, to him a son was born. And he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.

The first murder had transpired after Cain killed Abel. Sin was starting to abound on the earth. God blessed Eve and Adam with another son named Seth. This was a son named in the scriptures for a particular reason because Adam and Eve had many children. But there was a denotation of Seth here in these verses. Why would this be important? Why not mention multiples of their children?

The last sentence of the last verse in this chapter speaks volumes. After Seth was born, men began to call on the name of the Lord. We should notice that after the first murder we do not see God walking with man as much. Soon, there would be a flood that destroys everything but the chosen man and his family along with chosen animals. But after Seth, maybe because of Seth, people called on the name of the Lord. Through Seth’s lineage, Noah was born. The only man outside of his children that believed in the One true God. The only one who was not corrupted.

If we want a life that has a firm foundation, then we need a solid rock to build that foundation. Jesus is that rock for us. When we start calling on His name, our lives will change.
