Luke 2: 11 -12 “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

Today we celebrate the birth of our Savior. God who came in the form of man for the purpose of sacrificing Himself for us. Christ came in the most humble of ways. He was not born in a palace or in the home of a rich man. No, He was born in a cave and laid in a manger. A manger was a place where livestock were fed. The cave was for the livestock. This is where God, our Savior chose to be born. There is no one in a position lower than He was born into.

He was wrapped in swaddling clothes. When the sacrifices were made in the temple, the people had to sacrifice perfect animals. There could be no blemishes. So in order to have the animals in that shape, they would wrap them in swaddling clothes. So this is a picture of Christ being the perfect sacrifice. He came in the most humblest of ways and was to be the perfect sacrifice. All this for you and me! Sinners, unworthy of His love, to say the more unworthy of His sacrifice.

This is the true meaning of Christmas. Not to receive all the presents. Not to see how much money we can spend on our families. Not to watch a man in a red suit come down the chimney. We have this day to celebrate the love and mercy shown to us by God. He sent His perfect Son to give us an opportunity to spend eternity with Him. Celebrate Him today! Thank Him for His love of us!
