Matthew 1:18 – 19 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.

Joseph and Mary were two young kids who had been engaged to marry. God had chosen Mary through this process to carry the Messiah and to mother Him into adulthood. Joseph, like us, was challenged in this moment. What do I do now? The one he had been set on marrying was pregnant. Had she been unfaithful? Of course she had, was what his mind was screaming. He would have to do something about this. He had all right by Jewish culture to divorce her publicly, but this would result in her being stoned to death. So being a just man, he intended to put her away secretly.

Before this happened though an angel came to him in a dream and told him God’s plan. He told him the child was from the Holy Spirit. From this point forth both of these young people showed true faith. Mary being blessed to bear the Son of God. Joseph for being willing to marry her and help raise Jesus. They were willing to commit themselves for years of toil and trouble to see this through. Think of the joy of knowing you were raising the Messiah, but then think of the weight of responsibility. But they both were willing and committed.

This friends is the faith we should show in our walk with the Lord. Not knowing what could happen or where we may be called but willing to stand on faith and follow God’s direction. This is the true walk of faith. It may mean speaking to people in public about Jesus. It may mean traveling around the world to serve Him. It could be that He wants you to commit to giving extra to help someone in need. Whatever the call, will you answer?
