2 Kings 18:11-12 Then the king of Assyria carried Israel away captive to Assyria, and put them in Halah and by the harbor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God, but transgressed His covenant and all that Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded; and they would neither hear nor do them.

Have you ever had a child who refused to listen? Of course you have. They are humans just like you and me. Like you and me they become hard headed and want to do things their way. This is an affect of sin. Pride creeps in and we start thinking we know better. There have been many nations that chose to not follow God after He blessed them. Abundance and success left them thinking it was them who performed the great feats. Then they turned from the God who placed them at the point they were at.

The northern kingdom of Israel had reached this point. They were committing the sins of the other nations around them. Serving other gods and forgetting what they had been commanded. God allowed them to be conquered and hauled off to a foreign country. It was the punishment He had warned them about through Moses. God told them they were even grinding the bones of their fellow country men. There was no regard for God nor their fellow country men. Then disaster struck.

We as a nation are in the precarious spot that the Israelite’s found themselves. We are on the precipice of judgment. Can we turn back to the God who has blessed us? Of course. We can repent and turn to the One who loved us enough to send His Son to save us. But will we as a nation do that? We are serving pagan gods. We are grinding the bones of our fellow country men. Sexual immorality abounds. Is the pull of sin greater than the call of a loving but righteous God? We will see.
