James 1:1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ

James is the half-brother of Jesus. He at one time told Jesus he was crazy and needed to stop telling everyone He was the Messiah, along with his other family members. But something happened along the way to change his mind. He grew up with Jesus as his older brother. He knew Jesus intimately. So you would think he would have known from being around Jesus who He truly was. But it took time and walking with Jesus during His three years of ministry.

James came to the point to call himself Jesus’s doulos. This is a Greek word for slave. This was a slave that chose to stay a slave after his time was served. The doulos was saying I want to continue to serve you. I give myself over to you as my Lord forever. He saw something in Jesus that told him to give it all up and serve Jesus as Master. This is crucial for us to understand as Christians. We are to give everything up to Jesus and allow Him to be master of our lives.

To do this we have to understand that He is worthy of this role. And looking at what He said and how He lived convinced me to be His doulos like James. He is worthy because He came down from heaven to walk with us and suffer like us. Think about that, He came down from a perfect place with no sin. He did this because He loved us and was the propitiation for our sin. He took our punishment for the evil we have done. How can I not give Him everything of myself? What will you do with Jesus? I hope you will consider this question.
