1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
Socrates made a statement, “The only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing.” This is a quote that I have heard people make many times over but in different forms. It is suppose to let people think that when said the person is humbling himself. But being humble is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less. When we sin it is often because we are focused on self. What I want. It is a common human characteristic.
John makes a statement that we do not have to sin. This is raising the bar really high for us. One that realistically we will not reach. What do we do when we are consumed by sin? We have an advocate. Someone who is sitting at the right hand of the Father. He took that seat after dying on the cross, taking the punishment for our sin, going to the grave and then being resurrected. When He took that seat, it represented His job being complete. It is now possible for those who accept Jesus as Savior to be forgiven.
You and I are loved with a love that we find hard to believe. That is why Jesus came to save us. Now He sits at the right hand of the Father and every time the accuser tells God we are guilty if we have accepted Him, Jesus points to us and says, “They are mine.” I paid the price for them.” The Father says that our sin is as far from us as the East is from the West.” It is not because of us but because the blood of Jesus covers our sin. Don’t you want an Advocate? Come to the cross and lay your sins down. Accept Him as Lord. He is patiently waiting.
