Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His names sake.

In order for something to be restored, it first must be in disrepair. So for God to restore us our souls have to be marred by sin. Since sin entered into the world through Adam in the garden, then there must be someone who came in order to perform the restoration. This second person is Jesus. He came in order to restore us to the Father taking the punishment for our sin.

Jesus came into this world, hung on a cross, took our punishment on that cross, died and was resurrected. If we confess this and believe in our hearts then the restoration is complete. Then he leads us in the path of righteousness. This is what we call the sanctification process. We walk with Him under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit learning to be more like Him for the rest of our lives.

This is what the Bible is all about. David wrote this hundreds of years before Christ. So this Psalm has a meaning in a meaning. David was writing about his walk with God but at the same time prophesying about Jesus. God called David with all the sin of his life a man after His own heart. Why? Because he sought forgiveness and repented of his sin. Do you want to be a man after God’s own heart? Then seek the Jesus David prophesied about!
