Colossians 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
Philosophy is the study of theoretical basis of a particular branch of knowledge. The problem with this is most times it is not based in biblical truth. The knowledge of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. At the end of the day it is empty of any real value. It is based in worldly concepts and often leads to refuting of Christ.
There is a concept put forth by Paul, iron sharpens iron. Christians should come together and discuss and encourage the study of the scriptures of Christ. This is a healthy educational basis for increasing our knowledge of Christ. One problem that often occurs is when we try to add human philosophy into the knowledge and wisdom God has given us. This is a huge mistake. We cannot add to the knowledge base He has given us, we can only detract from it and discourage fellow believers.
I encourage you to take time everyday to open your bible and study. Learn what God is trying to tell you and then memorize His word. The only person that we have to blame for being fooled by fruitless philosophies and deceit is ourselves. God has made it possible to truly know Him through His word. Do not let yourself be made a fool.
