John 14:12 “Most assuredly. I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to the Father.”

When Jesus makes the statement , “Most assuredly,” it should be understood this is an emphatic affirmation. So what is coming behind this statement is a command we should pay close attention too. If you believe in him, the works He does we will do also. What works is he referring to? This is a question that we should take a little time and unpack. Because the work Jesus has done, saved me and hopefully, you from eternal damnation.

The works He is referring to here is not raising someone from the dead or healing a lame man. Although others in the bible have done this and it is possible He could use us in this manner, it is not likely. The work he is referring to is spreading the gospel. Do you realize that spreading the gospel is what saves people from hell. This is the most important work we can do. If we healed the lame and sick what good does this do if they are still bound for hell? No the important work is spreading the gospel to the lost.

Do you realize that Jesus never preached outside of the borders of Israel? Everything He did, He did inside of a very small country. Now think about the size of the world and the billions that have and do exist. This is the great work we are called too. This is what he is saying when he stated,” this is the work he will do greater than me.” never let your eyes be taken off the gospel message and its saving power!
