Ephesians 3:8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ

Paul was one of the greatest missionaries who ever lived. He was by far the greatest expository writers penning over half of the new testament. He preached to us the gentile and he preached to governors and kings. Yet after all his accomplishments he considered himself the least among the saints. Why would someone like him come to this conclusion?

Because of his understanding of grace. God’s riches at Christs’ expense. If you have given your life to Jesus this is what you have, God’s riches. It was made possible by Jesus’s expense. He paid the price for the penalty of sin we committed. As Paul went along and walked his sanctification journey, he understood more and more the love of Christ. This made him realize his role and made his effort seem small. It was not small but compared to what Christ has done for us, it would be hard not to think this way.

It is my hope that you have had the moment that changed your eternal destination. I hope you have a relationship with Jesus. When you walk the road in learning after that experience you realize more and more each day the cost that guaranteed your salvation. That will truly humble you and make you take a look at who you truly are. It is not a pretty picture but Jesus is not finished with the painting. So this is not an exercise of thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. Your eyes should always be on Jesus.
