Amos 7:7 Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand.

The shortest distant between two points is a straight line. So point A is where we stand and point B is heaven where God’s throne is. So the straight line is the way in which we should travel. But we as humans who are referred to as sheep wander off the path and travel further from God our Shepherd than was intended. We are drawn off the straight path by sin.

Sin takes us further than we ever intended from the destination we first desired to make it. Sin is a slippery slope and we slide down that slope thinking it will be fun. But when the end of the slope comes we crash. But what happens before we crash? Well, God has used his plumb line to redraw the straight line from where we are in our sin, back to Him, over and over again. His plumb line is His word and we as Christians are called to carry it to the world.

Gods word is sharper than any two-edged sword and it separates bone from marrow. It is intended to be used to slice the sin from our lives. It makes it possible for us to see Christ. What He did when He sacrificed Himself on the cross. No, sin and separation from God is not fun. It leads to an eternity of pain and suffering. Make sure you follow the plumbline laid out for you by God to an eternity in the presence of Jesus.
