John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
The world is full of trouble. Most times we step out of one bad situation into another. Sometimes these situations are caused by our own doings. Sometimes we just find ourselves in these bad situations. No matter what we know that this world is not our homes and the steps we take and the years we live will be full of challenges.
But be not troubled because I have overcome the world. This is the message Jesus gives us. What exactly does this mean? Does the fact that Jesus overcame mean we will not face troubles? Sadly, no. We as Christians will face the same or more troubles than every other person. The difference is that with Jesus as our Savior we can have His peace.
Look at the disciples. They were beaten, driven out of their land and ultimately killed for the sake of spreading the gospel. But they were also human so they had headaches, colds and various other afflictions just like us. So their afflictions were more. But they had the Spirit of God upon them and traveling inside of them. This gave them comfort and surprisingly peace.
Peace is not the absence of conflict or problems. It is knowing that no matter what happens it is gain. Paul said, “If I live I live for Christ, If I die i die to Christ. So whether he lived or died it was for Christ. This is our peace that we know Him more abundantly. This life is a whisp of smoke. Eternity looms. Will it be with Christ?
