Genesis 19:26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

Many of us crucify ourselves between two thieves, regret for the past and fear of the future. This is a quote I stumbled across and the more I think about it the more I realize this is the truth. When this is applied biblically, Lott’s wife could not face the future because of the past. This is what cost her the life she could have had. Instead of being rid of the sin and the possessions that held her down, she wanted them because it was what she knew.

This is played out again over and over in the wilderness journey of the Israelites. The unknown and daily trusting in God for their needs were enough to make them cry out for the slavery and abuse they left in Egypt. They would have rather gone back to the known tough life instead of trusting in God. This is the existential threat to our souls. The fact that we lack faith in the One in which we claim to be the Savior of our soul.

Lott’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt. This is why the first generation of Israelites did not make it into the promised land. It all boils down to the known and unknown. Faith is the deciding factor and to be a child of God you must show your faith. Do you have that faith? Jesus is worthy of our trust and He wants you to take that step of faith.
