John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “if you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

We have often heard the phrase, “The truth shall make you free.” So the question now posed is, what is the truth? This is the part that we miss. We think it is our truth. In other words the truth is what we make it. The truth is relative to the thoughts i think about the subject I am pondering. Is this a wise and knowledgeable way to think?

Well, let’s say I think that gravity is not real. It is just a construct of a man who is trying to hold us down. LOL. But I go to the roof of a ten story building and step off. What will happen? My truth will be proved a lie. I will fall to my death. Now this has shown the flaw in relative truth. It is a false belief in a thought I had faith in.

The real truth is found in God’s word. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Later in the chapter we are told Jesus is the Word. So if we abide in the Word we are His disciples. Then we will know the truth and we shall be set free. In other words, Jesus sets us free when we understand He is the Messiah. The Savior who was sent to die for our sins.

Now you know the truth. Will you abide in His word and be His disciple? Will you know the real truth and let it set you free?
