Mark 7:15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things which defile a man.
The Israelite’s were given the ten commandments. As human beings they could not keep the laws given. Instead of acknowledging that, they added six-hundred and three more laws. Dietary laws were added and the way to prepare and eat food became a huge part of the life of a Jew.
When Jesus and His disciples were gathered, the Pharisees and scribes, the keepers and protectors of the laws, noticed them eating without washing their hands properly. They asked Jesus about this trying to accuse Him of allowing the law to be broken. They wanted to accuse Him and discredit His righteousness. Jesus then used Isaiah’s writings against them to show the hypocritical motives.
He went further and told them that what comes out of a person defiles him. The words that a person speaks shows what is in their hearts. Mean words, accusing words and spiteful words show what state the person is in. These are the defiling things. It all boils down to the heart. This tells us truly who we are.
The law shows us the need for Jesus. The heart shows us if we are His. If you have a heart problem then call on Him today. Ask forgiveness and live for Him.
