Isaiah 53:2 For he shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
We have seen the pictures on television of children in poor places. They are dirty and look malnourished. The streets they walk on a riddled with filth and trash. The close up comes and we see there eyes. How can they live in such squalor? We never can imagine our children in this environment.
God formed the earth with His Word. John 1 tells us that Jesus is the Word. Jesus formed the very world that He would be born into. He knew Israel because he made covenant with Abraham. He was there when Samuel anointed David. He witnessed everything. Throughout the Old Testament the Messiah was prominent and the world awaited Him. Then the Word became flesh and was born into His creation.
He walked the dirty streets and lived the life of a common citizen. He felt hunger pains. He stubbed His toes and felt the pain. He lived the life and was tempted like any other. But He was different. He refused to sin. But He came to conquer sin and death. He was not a Titan or some Greek mythology God who lorded his power of the weak human. No He came from high to walk and experience our afflictions and limitations.
When it was time He taught the people about His Father and Himself. He traveled like an old country preacher. He was cold and he was hungry. But this did not stop Him. He was threatened and the people tried to toss Him off a cliff. But He kept teaching and He kept loving. He was different. He healed the sick, blind and lame. But the people rejected Him.
From before the time He created the world He knew the world would reject Him. But He created and He came. He loved His people but His people did not know Him. But He would not stop loving. He performed the will of His Father. His mission would be fulfilled. Even as He hung on that cruel cross, He loved.
His people watched as His last breath was given and they thought death had swallowed Him up. But His love could not be stopped and He rose. He rose from the darkness and coldness of death, back into life. He pick it up where He laid it down. He did this out of His love for us. He understood we could do nothing to save ourselves. So He loved us enough to save us.
Today we see the evil and hear the offenses the world hurls at Him. But He stands with His arms open to welcome us from the grasp of evil. He waits for us to give ourselves over to His grace and mercy. Would you even consider His gift? Would you even think of eternity? Even if you do not now, He still waits for you.
