Proverbs 15:16 Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure with trouble.
There is an Aesop fable that tells the story of a man who stores treasure. The man does nothing with it, he just guards it and looks at its beauty all day. One day he leaves and someone steals that treasure. He calls the Sheriff and tells him what happens. The Sheriff laughs and says, “You might as well put junk in the treasure hole if you do not use the treasure.”
Sure the man had treasure but it led to trouble and heartbreak. He treasured the treasure more than anything. His heart was taken with the thought of what he had. But actually what he had had him. There was no saving power in his treasure. It was just trinkets he was infatuated with and it had no real value.
Now think about the poor widow in Mark 12:42. She had nothing but two mites. Two simple coins and she took them and put them in the treasury for the temple. She gave all she had to honor God. She had a little treasure but a heart full of the love of God. This is a lesson we should meditate on day and night.
It is better to have nothing in this world but have a great treasure in heaven. Where are you storing your treasure?
