Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
When in doubt just be quiet. That is the advise my mother told me when I did not know whether I wanted to be nice or nasty. Some days are like that. We wake up on the wrong side of the bed or we stub our toe walking to the bathroom after getting out of bed. We feel like we have to say something to somebody but its iffy whether it is to say something hurtful or uplifting. Have you ever had a day like that?
I am sure you have. Solomon gives us some good advice in this proverb. A soft answer turns away wrath. Have you ever lost that battle? Then the person turns on you and you realize they are having a worse day and your feelings get hurt? This happens when we aren’t being led by the Spirit. This isn’t a fruitful venture. We lose the opportunity to be a good witness for Christ.
Have you ever been ill and want to say something harsh but listen to the Spirit and speak kind words? This opens a door for God to work through us. We then have the opportunity to be true disciples of Jesus. It all depends on whether you submit to the Spirit or the flesh. Be disciplined today and submit to the Spirit. It may be the difference in a soul coming to Jesus.
