Ecclesiastes 11:4 He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

The journey of a thousand steps starts with the first step. The journey of a thousand steps also ends on the thousandth step. The point being we have to start the journey but there is also effort needed to complete it. Our spiritual journey starts with the knowledge of who Jesus is, the end of the journey is heaven. There is a lot in between he wants us to learn.

Now our salvation does not depend on our works. This is guaranteed by Jesus’s sacrificial death on the cross and our accepting him as Lord of our lives. But the question remains what does our works consist of? A couple are, reading the bible, helping those in need, discipling others and praying.

These all depend upon effort from us. We can not be lazy and sit and feel the wind on our face. We can not expect a crop if we do not plant. Surveys have told us that most Christians don’t read their bibles but once a week. Do you want to reap a crop? Then purpose in your heart to take the steps necessary.
