Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

Job 1:6 tells us there was a day when God held a council. Satan was there and the Lord asked: From where do you come?” Satan answered and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” Now this should get your attention!

Why was satan there at the council in the first place? I cannot answer that, but he was. The next answer is where we have the problem. He pretty much makes the statement the earth is his and he rules it. This is true because we sinned and gave our reign over to him for a short time. But there is the crux of the situation. We sinned and satan rules.

The bible tells us satan goes about as a roaring lion looking to steal, kill and destroy. This is a dire situation for us. Yet Jesus sends his disciples and us out to the world to make disciples. We should be armored and weaponed up, right? No, this is not what he tells us to do. We are to put on the spiritual armor found in Hebrews 6. But we are to go out and face this terrible enemy and spread God’s salvation with His wisdom and peace.

How are we to move and maneuver? Asking for His guidance, reading His word and trusting in the Holy Spirit He sent us to help. It seems counterintuitive but this has been the game plan since the time of Jesus. And guess what? It is effective. Souls have been saved and the gospel spread. Trust in Him and trust in His plan!
