1 Corinthians 3:15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

This verse and the previous verses all talk about works. Now some take these and try to add to Jesus’s sacrifice and say they were not enough to save us. This is a lie from hell. Our salvation is solely dependent on what Jesus sacrificed. His death alone on the cross and His resurrection from the dead guaranteed our salvation. It is all we need.

Now let’s talk about the works that are mentioned here. These are referring to what we have done since we were saved. After the fact. Did you stay in His word and learn? Did you pray to Him? Have you spread the gospel? Have you been discipled then discipled others? Did you help the poor and those in need in His name? These are the works referred to.

It is scary knowing that our works will be tested. They will be put through the fire to see if they last. Those that are left are like precious metals. The fire has no effect on them. The ones that are burned are like wood and hay. They burn up and are blown away. Our works count. Now, when we are in His presence and our works are gone; there will be no crown to lay at His feet. We are in Heaven but with no reward.

How then do our works count? That is the million dollar question. What are the works performed for? Where was our hearts when we performed them? Was our heart full of Jesus? This is the heart of the matter. Did we perform them for Him. That is the point. We cannot work for salvation. Our works should be a place of love.

Again, love God and then love people. This is where we should be, loving from the heart that is full of Him. Spreading His gospel and love. Reflect on these thoughts today and purpose in your heart to share Him.
