Matthew 5:37 But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’, ‘No’. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
There is rarely a time these days that you do not need a contract to ensure an agreement. I remember a time when this was not the case. The older generations could count on one another to keep his or her word. Your word was your bond.
This concept is what is being spoke of here in the above verses. Whatever you speak to another should be iron clad. This is how we are supposed to be with others. If we tell them we are going to do something, then do it. But to many times regret sinks in and people back out of their agreements. Or they are to afraid to say no thinking they will disappoint someone. Then that act leads to not fulfilling their agreements.
The point is when we speak without thinking or we are greedy for gain, then we are tempted. This temptation is from the evil one. Our accuser, satan. Before you open your mouth and speak remember what you have learned. Yes should mean yes, and no, no. Anything less is sinful.
