Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

What does the poor in spirit mean? This is not referencing an attitude of self-deprecation. This is not the old poor me attitude. No this is realizing that you are at rock bottom. This is saying there is no hope outside of the grace shown to us by Jesus.

We are sinful. No one can doubt that. People are so sinful there is a relative truth idea that he has created. If it is good for me and makes me feel good it is good and true. This is how fooled we can be. Up is down. Male is female and vice versa. Before Jesus this is a place we are all at.

But when we finally come to our bottom of the barrel moment, this is what is mentioned in the above scripture. We are truly poor in spirit. It is a place we dread but it is the place where we can meet Jesus. We know that there is no other way. It is a harsh place if we do not accept Him, but a sweet place if we do.

What happens then? We become disciples if we surrender. We learn and grow in His knowledge. Then ultimately receive our inheritance, the kingdom of heaven. Please find that place and become poor in spirit. If you do there will be an eternity to spend with Him.
